London hospitality workers to receive mental health support as 20% of the industry suffers from severe mental health issues amidst long hours & burnout

After research published by The Royal Society for Public Health revealed that one in five hospitality workers suffer from work-related severe mental health issues, employees of bowling franchise All Star Lanes are set to receive tailored mental health support across 4 London locations from on-demand therapy startup SupportRoom.

The hospitality industry is known to be fast-paced, and often involves long shifts for its workers of up to 12 hours. 84% of those working in hospitality report feeling increased stress as a direct result of their job, and hospitality workers are also more prone to addictions as a way to deal with the stress of their day to day role. Research published by Deputy has also revealed that 77% of those working in the industry are concerned about job security due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Mental health and wellbeing has become a huge concern in hospitality, and firms across the country have started taking a proactive approach with mental health services to prevent staff burnout and overwhelm.

Online mental health platform SupportRoom have provided staff of London bowling firm All Star Lanes with dedicated therapists who they can talk to through text, voice notes and video call check-ins across branches in Stratford, Holborn, White City and Brick Lane. Staff can also receive self-help tools and holistic health insights on their online platform. Ash Vipani, founder of SupportRoom, says:

“The hospitality sector is a high octane world that makes particular demands on its workers. Much of the work involves interacting with the public and ensuring their requirements are met quickly, efficiently and with a smile. It’s an exciting and dynamic workplace, but the need to be ‘always on’ can take a toll. No issue is too big or too small for our dedicated therapists and they’re always available with help and support to make it easier to take that first important step towards better mental health and improved wellbeing in every aspect of life”.

All Star Lanes CEO Graham Cook says:

“Provision of adequate mental health care and support is a fundamental pillar of a responsible progressive employer. We are proud to have partnered with SupportRoom who deliver an accessible, flexible range of support options for our workforce”.
