Without a doubt, many of us channel our energy into day-to-day responsibilities that can cause us stress or fatigue. Self care can be simple yet so incredibly effective when looking after ourselves.

Whether we’ve had a bad day or a bad week, investing time in ourselves is something we should do regularly. The rest of this article will cover a range of self care activities, from physical to mental health self care.

1. Journalling

Start off the morning or finish the day by writing out five things you’re grateful for. You may also find that writing out your feelings and thoughts can help get rid of unnecessary burdens. You never know, you may want to look back on these times in the future!

2. Exercising

A HIIT workout; going for a jog around the park; or doing some yoga at home; getting the blood flowing is always good for you. Especially for those who spend the majority of their day sitting in front of a screen! Plus it’s true what they say about those endorphins. Sometimes, it can start the day off with a good note.

3. Listening to music

Whether it’s rap, pop, country, or even classical, music can help lift our spirits. Depending on our mood as well, happy or sad music can help us get through some tough times. Singing at the top of your lungs can be such a great stress-reliever, as well as dancing!

4. Have a skincare routine

Slap on a face mask, or spend more time giving your face a massage. Why not invest in one of those face massagers?

Believe it or not, having a skincare routine can be a great daily self care activity. This is because going through each step can be meditative, and you feel more put together afterwards. You can treat your skin like you would with a spa day!

5. Eat healthy

Munching on a salad or your five a day can actually improve your mental wellbeing. Did you know there are certain foods, like leafy greens, that can actually produce dopamine?

By eating clean, you can set yourself up for fewer mood fluctuations or even depression! This can happen if you eat too much sugar or processed foods.

6. Treat yourself

When was the last time you treated yourself to a yummy pizza, a spa day, or a few more hours of sleep?

Whatever it may be, you may find that treating yourself to something different every day can help lift your moods up. Like a piece of chocolate or an episode of your favourite show.

7. Shut off from the world

You might not know this, but spending too much time online can be damaging to your mental health. While TikTok can be entertaining, it’s essential to carve out some time away from social media or your devices.

Rather than scrolling through your feed, why not unwind with a good book or a podcast? You may find yourself learning something, or enriching your mind!

8. Meditate

We now live in a world where our minds are constantly switched on. This can make turning it off difficult. Especially when you need to concentrate on a task, or get some sleep!

Meditating is a great way to redirect the energy you spend on other things towards yourself. Simply sit there and focus your breath going in and out. Let your thoughts come and go. Meditation has been found to better your mental health.

9. Get outside

While we’re still in a pandemic, getting some fresh air can be an important part of your daily self care activities. Whether it’s simply popping down to the shops or fully immersing yourself in nature. Some of us don’t realise how effective a change of scenery can be.

10. Go to bed early

Sleep is a significant factor when it comes to our physical and mental wellbeing. Therefore, you may find it beneficial to go to bed early. Rather than spending an extra hour mindlessly scrolling through your phone, try to hit the hay a bit early!

You may find yourself feeling much fresher in the morning. And they say the early bird catches the worm!

11. Talk to a loved one

Reaching out to a friend or family member for a little chat or a proper catch-up is always worthwhile. You might find yourself getting some things off of your chest. Or you may find yourself enjoying their company. Humans are social animals, after all!
