There is yet no specific guidelines in the UK on this. BABCP state “It is important that you feel satisfied that you can meet the general guidelines for ethical and best practice even whilst practising remotely. In particular, it is important to consider issues of risk which may arise if you are providing therapy to someone in a country where you don’t know how the healthcare system works or are unable to liaise effectively, e.g. with their GP if necessary.”
Risk needs to be assessed at the initial consultation, assessment and intermittently throughout treatment. If you feel someone is not appropriate for an online format of therapy, you must communicate this with the client and SupportRoom will support your clinical decision on this.

For more information, please visit the CBT therapy page for a comprehensive clarification of CBT therapy in contrast to ACT therapy.
The main steps to ACT therapy are finding the cause(s), talking through the root problems, and finally accepting yourself. Similar to exercising the body exercising the mind should be of equal importance. No one was given a manual on how to manage reactions, emotions and feelings.
ACT therapy dives into the negative emotions to find their root cause. Our specific cognitive analytic therapy focuses on identifying current problems in terms of experiences from the past. By understanding the past in relation to the present issues faced, one can identify patterns in life that could hold someone back. Discovering choice and how to change thoughts and actions so that someone can make different decisions from their norm.
CAT has been commonly used for most eating disorders. Cognitive analytical therapy for anorexia focuses on changing the perspective of someone. CAT therapy is effective for many common problems that people face. For instance, common problems such as eating disorders or borderline personality disorder are reasons to seek out cognitive analytical therapy.

First, it is best to know what is CBT, to understand who CBT may help and how can it benefit someone. As cognitive behavioural therapy is a psychological treatment, it can tackle a wide range of problems. For example CBT is effective for those with problems such as marital issues, drug abuse, eating disorders, and common mental ailments. CBT therapy is effective for many issues because of its practical self-help strategies to challenge unhealthy thoughts.
Is CBT good for anxiety? Yes, CBT is an effective therapy for generalized anxiety disorder or GAD. For more information on GAD, please visit our therapies page for Anxiety Disorder. Cognitive behavioural therapy has been proven effective for those with anxiety and depression. Compassion focused therapy is a system of psychotherapy which combines techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy. For more information on cognitive behavioural therapy, visit the CBT therapy page. Compassion focused therapy or CFT helps people learn warmth and safeness in interactions with themselves and others. CFT therapy is especially effective for those with high levels of self-criticism, shame, and have low empathy and sympathy towards themselves and others.
As compassion focused therapy relates to changing perspective and adding compassion to understand how actions can affect oneself and others, CFT therapy is known to be especially effective for eating disorders.

Commonly, DBT therapy has been highly effective for those who face anger, depression, anxiety, and frustration. This type of therapy is highly beneficial for those who continually experience intense negative emotions or those who have become vulnerable to a form of painful emotions caused by situations out of their control.
DBT therapy for PTSD is highly effective, in particular. As DBT therapy focuses on improving negative emotions, those who suffer from PTSD have found this form of therapy beneficial for them. Dialectical behavioural therapy aids in stabilisation, safety and learnt coping mechanisms. Trauma treatment is also another benefit of DBT therapy.
Effective DBT treatment lasts an average time of six months. The main goal is to reach goals of emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal reflection. As DBT therapy is more intense, the length of treatment may vary depending on the individual.
The benefits of DBT therapy are a lifelong investment in one’s self. Our online DBT therapy helps to find ways to manage your emotions, regulate potentially harmful behaviours, and accept one’s self. IPT uses discussion and practical tactics to find the problems within relationships and one’s self. Patterns are found to distinguish healthy and unhealthy habits, thoughts, and emotions. Improve interpersonal functioning through addressing current problems.
As IPT is an evidence-based therapy, it has been practical for mood disorders, including eating disorders. This type of therapy addresses unhealthy habits in relation to personal relationships. IPT is less directive. Instead of focusing on the disorder, this particular therapy focuses on other aspects of life.
Depending on the type of depression *one could experience would determine whether IPT is effective enough. Commonly, IPT is for mild cases of depression that could have been caused or triggered by relationship factors.

Positive psychology therapy works on forgiveness, gratitude, and humility to break down those negative connotations. Positive psychology works to identify happiness in the small and large moments of life. Build up a resilient mindset to manage the positivity in everyday life.
Positive psychology approaches are beneficial for those who need to reduce depressive symptoms, as well as assisting those who experience anxiety. Positive psychology is intended to help address and improve negative traits within the individual, as well as how one perceives experiences, positive or negative. Psychologists aim to encourage you to accept your past and rediscover your innate sense of optimism and hope for the future.
At any point in the day when things may be tougher than normal, open the in-app platform and journal that moment or message your therapist. Psychoanalytic therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses in-depth talk therapy to bring unconscious thoughts and feelings to the surface. By bringing deeply buried thought and feelings to the surface, people experience consciousness of repressed emotions from childhood. Examining and discussing past traumas allow for an understanding of current symptoms. By encouraging insightful discussion on past traumas, people are able to understand the meaning of their behaviour through association, resistance analysis, and dream and thought interpretations. Then by transferring the knowledge of the past to the present, the conscious becomes clearer.
Psychoanalytic therapy is not as intense as psychoanalysis. Depending on your needs, you will define which therapy works best for you. The SupportRoom platform offers both therapies online at your convenience.
We provide expert psychotherapy in the form of messages, voice notes and videos, with 24/7 access to resources so you can progress at your own pace. With our platform, you can use the Journal tool to write down anything you think or feel. The Mood Box tool can be used to track your mood and progress over time.
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the psychological roots, commonly childhood problems, of any emotional suffering. Through deep discussion with a qualified therapist, one would self-reflect and self-examine their relationship with themselves and how that has affected the present symptoms. The aim is to change those childhood traumas and their effect on present day symptoms. In discovering patterns in behaviour, the in-depth discussion will change those behavioural patterns.
Because psychodynamic therapy delves into the subconscious and its effects on the present-day symptoms, those who suffer from depression and anxiety benefit from this form of therapy because of its nature. Does psychodynamic therapy really work? Psychodynamic therapy has been proven to be effective for a wide range of mental health symptoms and is especially effective for “medically unexplained” symptoms. The effects of this treatment last long after the completion of therapy.
Psychodynamic therapy has been proven to be effective for a wide range of mental health symptoms, and especially, effective for “medically unexplained” symptoms. The effects of this treatment last long after the completion of therapy as well.
Unlike psychoanalytic psychotherapy, psychodynamic interpersonal therapy focuses on treatment to resolve difficulties rather than just understanding trauma. However, psychodynamic interpersonal therapy is similar as it also involves in-depth conversations to identify key triggers and traumas from the past.
SupportRoom offers psychodynamic interpersonal therapy online at your convenience. With in-app messaging and voice notes, talk to your therapist comfortably from anywhere. The psychodynamic interpersonal therapist is uniquely matched to you and your needs.
