Online Cognitive Analytic Therapy

What is cognitive analytic therapy useful for?

Our online cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is useful in the treatment of:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Borderline
  • Personality Disorder
  • Eating Disorders
  • Phobias
  • OCD

What is Cognitive Analytic Therapy?

CAT examines the way we think, feel, and act to overcome problematic behaviours.

CAT offers a collaborative approach to understanding where your distress comes from; with a focus on exploring your early life experiences.

By exploring experiences from your childhood, you’ll understand the origins of your problematic behaviours; positively changing negative associations.

What type of person benefits from CAT?

CAT is particularly effective for people who experience difficulties with their relationships.

How does online Cognitive Analytic Therapy work?

CAT is often delivered in groups of 16 sessions.

  • Sessions 1-4 – talking therapy; exploring your current difficulties in conjunction with your developmental history. Your therapist creates a “reformulation letter” which you summarises a shared understanding of your life story, with some insight into how your past might be affecting your present.
  • Sessions 5-12: formulation diagram; you’ll use formulation tools and journals to help recognise your unhelpful behavioural patterns. Together with your therapist, you’ll develop strategies to overcome unhelpful patterns.
  • Sessions 13-16: talking therapy; an explicit focus on endings. You’ll create goodbye letters that you read aloud
The following three months are open for review.

What are the benefits?

CAT tends to be an effective therapy with statistically few drop-outs. Many patients find this approach incredibly accessible and helpful.
